PostSubject: Re: New PC. Any advice? - part II   New PC. Any advice? - part II Icon_minitimeWed Feb 24, 2010 9:10 pm

I'm not a specialist, so the best tip I can give: the choice depends a lot on how much you want to spend.
However, I find it strange that the first setup still has DDR2 memory. On the long term, it will become rare and more expensive, so I would suggest DDR3 (but I don't know if it is supported). Further, I would take 4GB memory. If you want to play some new games on windows vista/7, I think 4 GB is really useful. But you can only fully use the 4GB if you have a 64 bit windows.

I'm still not completely decided about what I want, but I want to order this week. I started with a high budget around September, I lowered it a lot in December, and now it's increasing again (and quickly pale )

I want to buy something not very expensive but i'm looking for something that I will be able to upgrade during time. I'm looking for a mobo that suports I7 (eventualy I9 - 1366 socket?) CPU because in the future I want to build a better PC starting from what I buy now.
For the moment i found this two configurations:
- http://www.prostore.ro/sisteme_desktop/calculator-core-i5-2gb-500gb-hdd-p41402.html - arround 600 euros
- http://www.cel.ro/calculatoare-desktop/diaxxa-gaming-intel-i5-4gb-ddr3-1tb-geforce-gtx-275-l/ - arround 790 euros

but this is the one i would like to buy but is well over my budget:
this system costs arround 3320 euro (!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Anyway thnx allot Hanni for your advice. I give up the DDR2 solution.

Wow, the last one is really an extreme one Very Happy

I wouldn't buy the first one, that's only 2 GB ram and I doubt about some components. I think the second one is a lot better and upgradeable. It has a better graphics card and those spinpoint hdd's are also very good (is it the F1 or F3 series?). Of course, the first 2 don't support the 1366 socket. So the only core i7 you can take, is the 860 and 870.
But I wonder why you would need the i9, coz at the moment games don't even fully use the 8 virtual cores of the core i7's. So that's why I'm gonna buy the core i7 860 (socket 1156).

Hi all
I want to buy a video card for my pc. At the moment I have onboard video based on Intel G31 processor. The Mb is Gygabyte G31M-ES2L and I don't know what is compatibile. I want a Nvidia based video procesor. Some reviews pointed the 9800 GT but i found this. Is it ok for my MB?

I think it is possible because the card requires a PCI-e line and that is supported by your mb. But be sure the pci-e x16 lane is free, coz that is the fastest one.
Further you also have to check your power supply, because this card will require a lot more power than the onboard video card.

Hey Ady ... Just upgraded my pc too (on abudget) .Got me a Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H supports am3 , AMD Phenom ll x2 550 Black Edition 3,100 MHz , 4 Gb of ram (G-Skill) DDR3 , OCZ Stealthpower 750 w Psu , ATI HD5750 1Gb graphics card . All for around 520 euro's .With the dual core black edition and that motherboard there is a chance of unlocking a further 2 cores so making a dual core processor effectively into a quad core (does not work on all processors about 25/30 % success rate ) .Unfortunately mine wont unlock the other 2 cores ,still happy tho , will run all of the new games without ant problems Very Happy . Just a little info to help if I can .

Hi all

First of all wish you a happy new year and fulfillment of all desires, good health to you and your families.

Thnx Wutchie for your advice and your good intentions.
Firs of all I managed to set the final budget for may new video card (the most importatnt step to refine searching). The final budget is around 105 euros. I started reading a lot of review's for the videocards that i can afford.
Finalists were ATI Radeon 5750 and Nvidia GTS 450. Both support DX11 Crossfire/SLI, 1024md, GDDR5, similar speeds and frequencies, 128 bits. The only difference between them is the Open GL, 4.0 for Nvidia and 3.2 for ATI.
Final question: which of the two do you think is better?
Next week I want to give the order for the video card and I would also like to know your opinion.

Here is a link for that two videocards: Radeon HD 5750 vs GTS 450.
