| Hi, Today I started my windows and after the loading screen the screen of my laptop became black (like it was off)...and it stayed off I can use "safe mode", but the normal mode always gives a black screen. I really don't get it. I have searched on the internet for a solution, but nothing worked. Is there someone else who had this problem? And what is the solution? I don't have time, so I'm not planning to try 100 things. So if nobody knows or the first solutions don't work, I just reinstall this crap windows Luckily I never have problems with my linux, so i can continue to work Greetz, Hanni | |

| This happens when you do not have a driver for your card graphic, and your computer does not find any driver is installed in such a way you have to do is go to safe mode or VGA mode but your computer will work with low-resolution, then install the drive in your graphic card, and restart your pc, then should either leave the windows with a low resolution, but it should be seen, then only requires you to set the resolution of your screen. Kisses hanny and luck! Darky | |

| Hi M8
i have seen this on a couple of laptops recently, possible resolutions are
1, get the original driver from the laptop manufactures site or (Driver CD if you have it)
2, try to get the latest driver from the card manufacturer (ie Nvidia or ATI)
3, as it is a laptop you may not be able to get the graphics card changed unless they added it as a removable component, so you may have to replace the motherboard (i hope it is not this one)

| I only have the manufacturers driver...coz a year ago a new driver destroyed my registry... And I don't think the graphics card is broke, coz it works for safe mode and in linux (in right resolution). So I blame windows I'm gonna reinstall it, and if it doesn't work...well then goodbye windows But then I can't play any more | |

| try to rejump your mainboard. 1.open your pc. 2.remove the CMOS battery. 3.like all other pc's there should be a 3pin jumper nect to it. putt it from 1,2 to 2,3. normaly this should work. your bios should now accept your driver. mean while when your in the bios look at your set up if your videocard is in agp8 or pci express. i'll hope this works for you, it did for me. | |

| Euhm, I'm not gonna open my laptop If I break something, then I'm totally stuck, I really need this computer... If it is without windows, so be it. I reinstalled windows yesterday and today I try the driver. If it fails, then I stay with linux. Greetz and thx for the help! Hanni | |

| This night I found some time to install some drivers (including the graphics driver) and all works fine. So I assume Windows just wanted to play the clown Let's hope my "format c:" punishment was hard enough so that it doesn't want to try it again I'm also thinking of writing a "Installing Windows XP guide" with a lot of tweaks and advices, but that will be for the summer Probably I will forget it again, so if someone is interested, help me remember it Greetz, Hanni | |

| I never had problems with XP until 1,5 years ago...when I chose computer science as study... Seems Windows doesn't like those people I don't have vista and I'm not planning to buy it, so I can't make a guide for that , but I noticed (from seeing it at other people's pc) that most of the XP tweaks still work on vista. But now i have some other things to do that are a little more important: my thesis Greetz, Hanni | |
